Tips to Reduce Negative Marks in Bank Exams

Negative marking is a common feature of almost all the competitive exams such as banking jobs like IBPS, SBI clerk, PO and government exams like UPSC, SSC, INDIAN NAVY, RAILYWAYS etc.

The toughest marking is seen in bank exams as they follow sectional cut-off.

 What is negative marking?
The provision of negative marking is made in the bank exams to ensure that ethically intelligent candidates should get the job rather than those who are giving random guess work in the paper. Therefore, if the answer is marked wrong it will be penalized by a negative score which is 0.25 of the total marks allotted to that question.

Tips to reduce negative marking in bank exams
  1. Avoid random guess work
If you are not sure about the answer of any of the questions it is advisable to leave that question rather than doing a silly guess work. Random guess work can give you a wrong answer. Do not get worried or anxious while reading a difficult question. It is one of the reasons to mark the wrong answer.
  1. Practice more
This is very important factor of appearing in the exam. Practice makes a man perfect, therefore if you will practice more you will be familiar with the topics and gain confidence. It will help you to rescue more marks and avoid negative marking.
  1. Study regularly
Now-a-days the examinations have become tough and competitive therefore it needs a constant             touch with the studies. Regularity in studies helps to attain speed and accuracy, which is the basic need to crack the exam. Plan a proper strategy for studying as it will prepare you effectively to face the competition at ease.
  1. Solve previous year question papers
If you will solve the previous year questions papers it will help you to understand the exam pattern and the chances of committing mistakes reduces. It will enhance your subject specific knowledge and thus improve the negative marking.
  1. Concentration:
Always stay focused while reading the questions in the examination, do not read a few lines and jump to the conclusion. Understand the question and then solve it effectively.
  1. Try easy questions first
Every exam has easy as well as difficult questions. Choose the easy questions first as it will give you confidence while attempting the paper. Once you are through with all the easy questions then attempt the difficult questions but do not try to end up with wild guesses. In case you cannot solve it, leave it.
Avoid stress
The more you stress, the more are the chances of mistakes. Avoid taking stress while attempting the paper or else you will not be able to qualify your exam.

Mock test papers are the best tools to enhance your performance.  It allows a constant check on your performance and weaknesses. Thus one gets a chance to improve upon those topics to avoid any mistakes during the examination.
